THE VIDEO ART OF ZOE REDDY
(OR WHY A MUSIC VIDEO CANNOT BE ART)
“The quivering limbs of a go-go dancer
The vibrant bleeding of guitar strings
Green screen edit queen
And many more things
Make the music video
The killer of the radio stars
And the enfant terrible of the art world
Watch out museum space
Get Reddy for a fast paced
Electrified
Paralyzed
Crotch shot
Wig hot
Music video supreme…”
Zoe Kate Reddy is a recent graduate of the royal academy of arts in The Hague, and currently works lives and plays in the same city. Her work in performance and video grabbed attention during her graduation exhibition, bestowing upon her the STROOM prize for young talent in 2009 and a place in this years “up and coming talent” show in the GEM museum.
Zoe’s video work utilizes the music video structure to play with the boundaries between music and art and high and low art.
Her images are theatrical, dramatic, twisted and funny; her editing is quick and cheap and her costumes always original.
